What Will You Give Up?
February 22, 2012

Today marks the beginning of a yearly period we call Lent.  A lot of people celebrate it...some more than others depending on your religious affiliation.  The thing a lot of us do during this time, though, is give something up for 40 days.  Basically, we choose something in our own life that if we were to stop doing that one thing for nearly 6 weeks, it would be a challenge...and ultimately a sacrifice on our part.  Sacrificing to self is the least of which we can do in response to Jesus Christ's sacrifice on the cross which we remember on Easter Weekend.

I was thinking today on my drive into the church what I could give up for these 40 days.  I thought about pop, but I already had one half gone in my car this morning.  Then, I thought about other things that I really enjoy....sweets, television, video games, facebook...but in the end I made a decision that will not only be a sacrifice, but will also lead to a healthier lifestyle in the long run...I AM GIVING UP RED MEAT FOR LENT!

I know what you're thinking..."Is that really a sacrifice?"  For a guy who loves steak, pork, and the like...yes it is...and it's something I've been wanting to do and putting off as it is anyway.

So, the question now for you is..."WHAT WILL YOU GIVE UP?"

Good for you, Josh! We are giving up donuts, and desserts. It is important to know that if we fail, we just start again. That peoples' feelings are priority, and we should show our love to everyone this Lenten season. You're doing a super job at MCC. We love you.
